The Wilmington Riverwalk has been voted as the 2nd best riverwalk in America.
In January, Wilmington was put on a list of 20 riverwalks to determine the best 10 in the country.
USA Today 10Best editors partnered with a panel of urban planning experts to nominate the 20 riverwalks.
Voters had about a month to cast their vote for their favorite.
Today, February 26, USA Today released the results and Wilmington came in at #2!
“The Wilmington Riverwalk’s #2 ranking among USA TODAY’s 10Best – Best Riverwalk is a welcome addition to the destination’s growing list of accolades,” said a press release from the Wilmington and Beaches Convention & Visitors Bureau. “This prestigious travel award, voted on by readers of USA TODAY, shines a spotlight on Wilmington’s pedestrian-friendly 1.75-mile Riverwalk with more than 200 shops, restaurants, attractions, theatres, tours, and cruises—all within easy walking distance.”
The full top 10 list is as follows:
- Detroit International RiverWalk – Detroit
- Wilmington Riverwalk – Wilmington, North Carolina
- Schuylkill River Trail – Philadelphia
- San Antonio River Walk – San Antonio
- Smale Riverfront Park – Cincinnati
- Waterfront Park – Louisville
- Bricktown – Oklahoma City
- Mississippi Riverwalk – Dubuque, Iowa
- Chicago Riverwalk – Chicago
- Charles River Esplanade – Boston
“The City of Wilmington’s investment in the Riverwalk has transformed it into one of our destination’s key attractors,” states Kim Hufham, president/CEO of the New Hanover County Tourism Development Authority. “Visitors and residents of Wilmington and its island beaches know that our Riverwalk is a special place for recreation, dining, shopping, entertainment, and natural beauty. While we had high hopes to again win the number one spot in a USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice contest, it is quite an honor to be voted as number two among so many outstanding riverwalks across the U.S.”
